Okay, so this is my second foot post in a few days, I get that. . . This is good though. . . Here’s my footprint on the porch, coming in from the creek. This is of note for me because, for a long time, my footprint was very rectangular - no practical arch, and definitely not one visible on the track. Now, there is a clear arch. I also broke my ankle because of flat feet which was considered normal variation, was on crutches for nine months, and even after, it was a nonunion/incurable fracture (osteochondritis dissecans). A few years later, x-rays showed a full resolution, but that’s another story. . . Foot problems (“flat feet”, arches that “require” support, feet turned inward or outward, etc.) are almost always both 1) fixable without special shoes/figurative crutches of various kinds and 2) immensely problematic for the whole body until fixed. . . Because the foot is the literal foundation of the body, imbalance there, through the musculoskeletal and fascial systems, will place abnormal pressures on literally every other tissue in the body to greater or lesser degree. Organ problems, hormonal abnormalities - literally any issue in the body can have foot or other structural issues causing or contributing to it. . . What someone needs to fix their own structure is individual, but some basic favorites are rolfing (you should see/feel noticeable results after every session, and the rolfer should keep the pain at your edge, not push past it; if not, find someone else) and @gmbfitness for at home exercises that promote strength and flexibility while building safe/proper posture. . . While often overlooked, poor structure really is a root of chronic disease of all kinds and addressing it is a significant part of both cure and preventing it, not to mention being and looking like one’s best self. . . #holistichealing #behealthy #befree #structuralmedicine #rolfing #feet #careforyourbody #foundationsofhealth #fascia #musculoskeletal #structure #architectureofthebody #buckminsterfuller #standtall #chronicillness #bestself

Becoming inspired by #OskarSchlemmer ‘s historic explorations between body/design, movement/architecture, emotion/technology. Schlemmer saw his modern world driven by the mechanized (human as machine) vs the primordial (depths of emotions), and created a whole world of works at the Bauhaus to investigate this dichotomy. Wondering, what would this experiment look like today, with some of our driving technologies being virtual, synthetic, augmented, dematerialized and data driven? What new relationships do we have between body and space?

BONE, skull : ABNORMAL, styloid processes. I’m not yet sure what that means. Anyone got any insight? Awesome study of the brain box. Quite literally, the top of this specimen is cut open and hinged with a tiny little latch. I love seeing the fixings used by museums to display objects. These mechanic articulations are offering me plenty of sculptural material and knowledge. The very dark hole at the bottom of the head is both beautiful and slightly ominous!! Amazing. 🧠

Today we explored pathways of connectivity. Build from the foundation first, trace the transference of energy and remember that stability comes before mobility. Understanding the architecture of the body allows us to better align ourselves to the outer flow of nature. . @charlesaudleyphotography

For a building to be safe, a strong stable foundation in the earth is required, so all the floors of the building are equally supported and stable. The building is safe, with structural integrity. And so it is with the body, it needs a strong stable foundation, with equal and even weight distribution across our feet when standing, across our sit bones when seated so that the spine is always tall, and rising equally either side whilst firmly grounded into the support of earth. The health of body and mind are supported by beautiful tall posture, the body naturally breathes and functions well. Bring your yoga practice off the mat and into your day. Move with confidence, ease and grace of strong stable foundation. The way we’re aligned affects our grounding and state of balance ~ walking standing sitting. The importance of tall posture and deep belly breathing for health and beauty in body and mind. The architecture of the human body is similar to that of traditional architecture. Arches contain a keystone, a triangular shaped stone at the apex of the arc. This is where weight is stacked, and able to be evenly distributed throughout the structure. In our body we have areas of triangular shaped bones, which act as keystones to structural arches, as well as muscular arches which create a dynamic arch structures, and keystones which are integral tensioners to fascial stability. These triangular bones are the 2nd metatarsal, medial cuneiform, sacrum, coccyx, manubrium, xyphoid, atlas, and occipital. The muscular/fascial domes or arches are the plantar foot intrinsics/Fascia, pelvic floor, diaphragm, pleural dome, oral diaphragm, and cranial meningeal dura. Layers and layers of domes and arches. "The way to strengthen an arch is to put weight on it- because it binds the stones together, and only with tension does it hold weight." -Ryan Holiday
